THE PCC at St Mary's Barnsley is considering an outline scheme to rebuild the organ.
The instrument and its 17th century case, thought to be of the school of Father Smith, was the subject of a feature in Clarion in June.
A consultant has been approached and a committee formed with a view to raising a substantial sum to rebuild the organ at the west end.
Organist Ken Walker, an HOA member, is involved in the project which it is hoped will have partnership links with the town and Barnsley College. Rector Fr Ian Wildey says: "These are very early days but we are looking at an exciting scheme for a three-manual, English-style tracker."
