Don Roworth stepped down as hon secretary at the annual meeting. Robert Cockroft assesses his contribution to the association.
'WITHOUT vision the people perish,' wrote the Old Testament prohet. Without the vision of Don Roworth, our association might have suffered a similar fate. His steadfastness, determination and team-building spirit, brought it a fresh purpose and direction.
Don has served us faithfully in recent years as a committee member and president and his knowledge of procedure will be as prized as his attention to detail.
Woe betide those who failed to follow up on action points in the minutes! But it was precisely this concentration on particulars that helped to underpin the association's foundations. Don's busy life as a tenor lay clerk (and occasional organist) at Wakefield Cathedral and the mounting demands of running his own computer business influenced his decision to step down.
It is a pleasing to place on record his rich and varied contribution to our association and its work and we look forward to his sage presence at our regular meetings.
